Cyprus is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, located south of Turkey and east of Greece. It is an ideal place for a vacation, combining beautiful beaches, history and a unique climate. And did you know that Cyprus is the first island from our side that geographically belongs to Asia? So after your vacation, you will be able to boast that you were on vacation not in Europe but in Asia :D
You can travel to Cyprus with your ID card – a passport is not required as Cyprus is a member of the European Union.
Although the island is a member of the EU, it is not in the Schengen Area, which means that despite the lack of EU borders, EU citizens must also go through border control upon entry. In the case of travel to Northern Cyprus, which is controlled by Turkey, an ID card will also suffice, but you should be prepared for any additional procedures.
For those interested, there are currently very lively talks underway about including Cyprus in the Schengen Area. This could have a very real impact on the way people travel, especially for tourists whose destination is a hotel in Northern Cyprus. Read the article Cyprus wants to join the Schengen Area
NOTE! Although you only need your ID card, you may sometimes be surprised that it has just expired or you have just lost it. Remember that your ID document must be valid for the entire period of your stay in Cyprus. If you need to get your documents quickly, you can get a temporary passport for PLN 30 no earlier than 2 days before your departure. The points are located at the airports.
You can find more information on the government website about temporary passports GOV.PL or in our other article.
When looking for airline tickets to Cyprus, it is worth using price comparison sites such as:
Official airline websites – sometimes you can find the best offers or promotions directly from the carrier.
Google Flights – you can quickly compare prices of different airlines. I really like this search engine and I provide a link on Tik Tok when I tell stories how to find cheap flights on google flight
Skyscanner – There you will find not only flights, but also tips on when it is worth flying to save money.
Kayak – This tool also shows accommodation and car rental options.
Remember that ticket prices can vary depending on the season. They are usually higher during the summer months, while off-season offers are more attractive. So when planning your trip, it is worth booking everything in advance to avoid price increases during the peak season.
The flight from Poland to Cyprus takes an average of 3.5–4 hours, depending on the departure point, airline and weather conditions. From Warsaw to Larnaca, the flight takes about 3 hours and 25 minutes.
You can fly directly to Cyprus from several Polish cities. It all depends on which airport you want to go to – Larnaca or Paphos.
Larnaca is one of the most popular airports in Cyprus, located close to resorts and beaches. Direct flights are offered by Wizz Air, and you can fly from the following cities:
Wizz Air is famous for its attractive prices, so it is worth following their promotions, especially if you plan to travel off-season.
Example ticket prices on routes to Larnaca during the off-season are:
Warsaw – Larnaca: od 219 zł
Katowice – Larnaca: od 219 zł
Krakow – Larnaca: od 199 zł
Gdańsk – Larnaca: od 199 zł
Wrocław – Larnaca: od 125 zł
Radom – Larnaca: od 159 zł
These prices may change depending on booking date and ticket availability.
During the season, prices for tickets to Larnaca can range from around PLN 250 to PLN 700, depending on the date and availability.
It is worth following Wizz Air promotions, but the closer to the holidays, the higher the prices. To save money, it is best to book tickets in advance.
Direct flights to Larnaca are offered by LOT, and you can fly out of Warsaw. Flights take place 4 times a week. The ticket price includes hand luggage and a cabin bag up to 10 kg. LOT provides basic on-board service, including a snack and a drink, in the ticket price.
This is an ideal option for those who value comfort and additional amenities during the trip.
The prices of LOT Polish Airlines tickets on the Warsaw-Larnaca route usually range from PLN 200 to PLN 700. The final price depends on the travel date, availability of seats and current promotions. To find the best deal, it is worth booking tickets in advance and regularly checking prices on the official LOT website.
Paphos is the second major airport in Cyprus, located closer to the western part of the island. Ryanair offers direct flights, and you can fly from:
Ryanair often organizes promotions, so it is worth checking their offers regularly.
Example prices for off-season routes to Paphos during the off-season are:
In season, prices for tickets to Paphos can range from around 150 PLN to 700 PLN, depending on the date and availability. It is worth following Ryanair promotions, but the closer to the holidays, the higher the prices may be. To save money, it is best to book tickets in advance.
Ercan Airport is located in the northern part of Cyprus, which is controlled by Turkey. It is the only airport in Northern Cyprus, but unfortunately, it is not internationally recognized. This means that Poles cannot fly there directly. To get to Ercan Airport, you have to make a transfer in Turkey, e.g. in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. Although Ercan Airport offers connections to many cities in Europe and Asia, it is not the most convenient option for Polish tourists. It requires an additional transfer, which extends the travel time and may generate additional costs. Therefore, most Polish tourists choose flights to airports in Larnaca or Paphos, which offer direct connections from Poland.
It is also worth mentioning that there are legislative ambiguities regarding crossing the state border through the airport on the Turkish side. Since we will reach the island through an airport in a country not recognized internationally, and above all through a country that the Greek part of the island does not look upon favorably, we may encounter problems when crossing the border between the northern and southern parts of the island.
The choice of airport depends on whether you prefer to spend your time in the east (beaches and resorts) or the west (historical and quieter places).
Cyprus is an island where the sun shines for 320-350 days a year, so any time is a good time to visit. Depending on how you like to spend your time – sunbathing, sightseeing or active leisure – different months offer ideal conditions.
Fun fact: Did you know that in Cyprus you can experience an extraordinary combination of winter and summer attractions in one day? Thanks to the Troodos Mountains, where there is often snow in winter, you can go skiing in the morning and enjoy a swim in the sea in the afternoon, where the water temperature rarely drops below 17°C even in winter. It is one of the few places in the world where such a combination is possible!
